For years, Target
has been at the forefront of bringing designer goods to the masses by
working with labels and brands who didn't have widespread availability
due to either prohibitive price points or distribution to only the top
tier boutiques and departments stores, most frequently located in big
cities. Unfortunately for guys, Target's role as a great democratizing
force in the fashion industry has mostly benefited only the ladies, with
collaborations that focused predominantly on womenswear designers and
women's goods.
But with Target Collective, that's all changed.
Target Collective is the big box retailer's
first foray into a specially curated design collection just for men. As
an added bonus, each of the items included in the assortment - ranging
from messenger bags to chinos - are all 100% made in the USA.
The brands represented include Billykirk, kings of handmade leather goods, the Internet's favorite paper goods company Terrapin Stationers and San Francisco's Taylor Stitch.
Owen & Fred, out of Brooklyn, contributed soap and a camouflage shave kit, Duluth Pack designed two travel bags and Locally Grown
offered an assortment of graphic tees. Despite the steep price points
of some of the items these brands regularly release, Target's in-house
team worked with each to include items that fit their ideal price, or
co-designed custom pieces. With pieces ranging in price from $10 to $270
- and most falling under $100 - no small feat for domestically-produced
goods. So, the collection won't destroy your wallet. But even if it
did, you can pick up a new one there from Billykirk.
Target Collective is available now at Target.com.
